A Message From Greg Roskopf:
We Welcome You to Join Our Education Team!

Pilot Mentorship Program

Our company has continued to evolve and work to grow the field of Muscle Activation Techniques into an industry of its own! And with this growth, we have been gifted different opportunities that have allowed us to expand into many aspects of education, such as incorporating online coursework to help with learning retention, video memberships for content review, and much more!

Over the last few years, we have seen many talented individuals come through our online modules. We have received consistent feedback that students would benefit from shadowing a current practitioner during their learning process. We are grateful to our MAT community and want to include YOU in the growth of our MAT education!

We are excited to launch a pilot mentorship opportunity this Spring for experienced MAT Practitioners wanting to give back and be a part of the MAT Education Process! There are many benefits to getting participants connected with us for our upcoming April 4th start.

Know someone in your local area who is interested in MAT education? Learn how you could be their mentor for the MAT Lower Body Module to take the first step in the certification process!

Video Series: MAT Spotlight Interviews

Greg Roskopf has launched a new video interview series. This video series features MAT Practitioners from all walks of life, how they came to MAT, how they used MAT to advance their careers, and what they are looking forward to in the years to come.

Interested in sharing your story? Write to us on support@muscleactivation.com if you have a story you want to share with Greg about your MAT impact!

The Annual Skills Assessment Process

MAT now requires annual skills assessments to ensure that MAT practitioners meet the industry standard within their current certified credentials. This process replaces the annual CEC requirement and costs only $199 per year!

This is the most affordable option MAT has offered in regards to maintaining individual practical ability and credentials. This new process confirms that our practitioner community upholds the integrity of their hands-on skills and allows MAT headquarters to validate these skills in a standardized format across the community for promotion on the website.

Specialist Assessment and Mastery Assessment dates are also voucher opportunities — Registration is Available by contacting Support

For anyone with vouchers remaining due to COVID restrictions, be sure to keep an eye on the EPCE schedule throughout the year and contact support if you’re interested in being registered.

Are you currently a non-active practitioner looking to regain your MAT credentials while improving your skill level in MAT? 2022 is going to be an exciting year to be part of MAT — don’t miss out!  Click here to connect with us on how you can get back into active status!

Practitioner Spotlight: Alan Thrasher

We have asked Alan Thrasher, MAT Practitioner from Sudbury, Ontario, to join us in the spotlight this month! Get to know Alan and learn from his success utilizing this unique skill set.

How long have you been a practitioner and where do you practice?

"I have been a MAT Specialist since 2008. I started in Toronto, Ontario now I am in Sudbury, Ontario."

Who is your most memorable MAT client and what was their outcome?

"My most memorable client would be Aaron, a CFL football running back. When Aaron came into my clinic he had knee surgery 3 months earlier where he had 3 out of 4 knee ligaments repaired. He worked with many specialists to get his knee to function again with no luck. In fact, his head coach told him to retire, but at 25 years old, he was unwilling to give up.

In the first session, Aaron came in on crutches. I listened to all of his stories about the therapies he had tried to get his knee to function normally, how other therapies were trying to bend his knee, and how his knee would not budge. More importantly, all the therapies ended up causing him more pain.

Understanding the interrelationships of joints which I learned through MAT, I asked Aaron what he was doing at the time of the accident. He replied, "I was catching a football in mid-air when I got tackled."

I chose to start my CAM assessment in his trunk knowing the following: his knee was in pain (could barely be touched) and that while athletes are in the air the spine requires a lot of muscle control.

I found no range of motion deficits in his trunk so I proceeded to ask Aaron about any past injuries he has had and he told me about 3 dislocations he had in his shoulders. So, I proceeded to compare range of motion of Aaron's right and left shoulders and discovered he had a massive discrepancy with upward rotation in his right shoulder meaning he had no upward rotation.

I then tested and treated all scapula upward rotators and his left injured knee straightened and the swelling went down. He was able to stand and walk without crutches for the first time since the injury happened.

Muscle Activation Techniques not only looks at the relationships between joints; it identifies and eliminates the muscle imbalances that create the environment for injury to occur.I worked with him for one month with isometrics I learned through MAT and he went off and Won the Grey Cup with his team!"

What are your goals for this year as a Practitioner of MAT?

"Finish my Masters MAT and write a book about the benefits of compensations in the body"

How do your clients describe MAT?

"'Amazing', 'Magical', 'Reliable', 'Weird' meaning how fast the changes are is nothing like they have ever seen before."

What do you want our readers to know?

"MAT is the most scientific and commonsensical approach to exercise and rehabilitation because it works with the body and for every body.

I am not only a Practitioner, I have Cerebral Palsy which means I was born with a stroke. I was walking and functioning before MAT but because of MAT, at 45, I do more activities now with ease then I did in my 20s."

Reminder of Our Scholarship Opportunities

Muscle Activation Techniques and Broadview College bring you a new and exciting opportunity to further your education and certification journey.

The Greenspan Scholarship:

Congratulations to Justin Peterson who has been chosen to receive the Greenspan Scholarship for the MAT Lower Body Module!

Here are some comments from the committee led by Andrew Fawcett, Jerry Greenspan's business partner:

"Jerry [Greenspan] always thought so highly of individuals who were able to think outside the box, especially when most other people may choose to just go with the crowd. Justin [Peterson's] ability to maintain vision on the reality of MAT's outcomes would have been challenging as he was taught a different paradigm for three years of PT school. The team liked Justin's ability to critically think through the limitations of PT and his humility to sign-up for another expensive and time-intensive educational experience. Jerry always laughed about his own ability to endure the painful process of education far beyond the capacity of most people!"

The MAT Completion Scholarship:

If you complete all four specialist modules consecutively, you will also be eligible for the MAT Completion Scholarship in partnership with Broadview College. Beginning Winter Quarter, January 3, 2022:

  • Students who remain continuously enrolled through all 4 Specialist Modules or all 6 Mastery Modules will be eligible to receive a 35% scholarship on the final module!
  • Students must complete the modules within the allotted timeframe, i.e. 12 weeks for Specialist or 6 weeks for Mastery, and become certified after each module to qualify for the scholarship.
  • The Completion Scholarship is only for Module Students and not available for students enrolled in the AAS Degree Program.
