Coming February 3rd, 2020, Greg Roskopf and Professional Golfer Bryson DeChambeau will be interviewed by Chris Como on his show Como Concepts on the Golf Channel! They are discussing how and why Muscle Activation Techniques® (MAT®) is effective for Bryson's golf game and potentially yours, too.

There is no better place to look than the professional sports industry when discussing athletic performance and recovery. In a sport such as golf, there are a lot of factors that make the game physically taxing on the body and these can cause imbalances within the muscular system that generate an array of issues.

What is Muscle Activation Techniques?

Muscle Activation Techniques has taken a different approach to prepare the body for athletic performance. We look at muscle tightness as being an indicator of muscular contractile inefficiency (MAT considers this a state of muscle weakness) and keep in mind these inefficiencies vary from person to person.

Here is how Roskopf explains the correlation of an individual’s movement ability, tightness, muscular imbalances, and overall range of motion in relation to golf.

Roskopf explains:

"Muscles tighten because they are attempting to protect the body from further injury (further muscle strain or joint tear). Neurologically, when the body recognizes instability, muscles will tighten up to protect itself. It’s like when we walk on ice; our body will instinctively tighten up in order to protect itself from falling due to the unstable surface. The MAT® premise is that in the same manner, when the body recognizes instability due to muscle weakness, other muscles will tighten up to compensate and create an artificial sense of stability (muscle tightness).

A multitude of factors such as stress, trauma, or overuse can contribute to muscle weakness. When you exercise, there is a period of exertion and then recovery, therefore it is normal to feel fatigue. When there is trauma, stress or overuse, the muscle may not recover until properly rested. If this is habitual, (i.e. swinging a golf club hundreds of times during practice, then multiple practices over many years) then the result can be muscle weakness and potentially result in injury."

Greg Roskopf Working with Golfer Bryson DeChambeau

Roskopf has been working with DeChambeau's ability to tolerate stresses, such as hours of swing repetitions, for multiple years. As they continue to work on DeChambeau's muscular system, they continue to create more mobility and control through the increase in stability that is generated by fixing any muscular imbalances that may have shown up.

Muscle Activation Techniques is not only preparing DeChambeau’s body to tolerate the repetitive swings but also to prepare him to handle and recover from the forces that he is putting on his body through his training program and through the multitude of tours he participates each year.

Look out for the interview on Chris Como’s show Como Concepts on the Golf Channel airing on February 3rd to directly hear from Roskopf and see first-hand how he and DeChambeau work together while at MAT Headquarters in Denver!
